Oo-oo-oo, la-la-la! Summer swingin’, bananas singin’, little monkeys makin’ mayhem in the jungle classroom of Dr. K’s School of Illusory Arts Summer Camp.
Picture this: five tiny humans, ages 8 to 11, bouncing ‘round like popcorn in a hot pan.
🐒 Ian & Evan—twin boys, always arguing about some random thing.
🐒 Cecilia—smiles brighter than a disco ball, guarding her super rare, completely ordinary pack of cards from Penn & Teller among her impressive collection of some of the fanciest playing cards EVER!
🐒 Joe—eight years old, tiny hands to match, but already doing perfect faro shuffles like a pro.
🐒 Yuhan—new to Canada, eyes wide open, heart even wider, she set the class record for setting up the coin through rubber trick in only 3.33 seconds!!!
And of course, Dr. K—our kung fu wizard with round sunglasses, who drops his 3-4-5-6 melody like a banana peel on a marble floor. Slip! Slide! Suddenly we’re all dancing. He even whispered his famous solfeggio pun:
“Mi-fa-sol-la…” or as he says in Mandarin, “米发骚拉”—translation: the rice went funky, and now… you poop very sadly. 💩🎹
(Yes, children laughed so hard they nearly fell off their chairs. Comedy is just tragedy with a good beat, right?)
On the second-last day of camp, Dr. K told the kids: “Pluck any random note on the keyboard. Don’t think—just play!” The kids came up and pressed on the keyboard randomly, each contributing one note to the magical inspiration that was about to take place: then—like real magic—Dr. K stitched their randomness into a melody so haunting it made even me stop mid-banana chew. He called it One Summer’s End.
But the tune was wordless, floating, waiting. So after class, I took Dr.K to my studio where Astraeus Z was already waiting to jump in on vocals for this new song — my little monkey hands started hitting buttons on my drum machine, Dr.K on the synthesizer, Astraeus Z took my notes from magic class and together we turned the wizard’s spell into a proper electro-chill-out banana boat. The result? A track that tastes like icecream on a hot day, with a sprinkle of kitchen-pan percussion distorted into a pseudo-EDM beat.
And guess what? 🎉 It just dropped today! Soon it’ll be streaming on all the big shiny platforms, but because you’re in my secret banana circle, you get it first!
End of summer? Well, let's just call it the beginning of the next adventure!
