Hello, my human-peoples! 🐾✨ Let me tell you about a fiery adventure in Chinatown with Dr.K!
A Night Out with Dr. K
It all began after watching the incredible soprano Adriana Da perform. Her voice was so mesmerizing it practically left the audience floating. 🌌✨ After the show, Dr. K, ever the man of mystery and MC for the show, invited us to try a new restaurant he’d discovered in Chinatown. “Authentic,” he said. “You’ll love it,” he promised.
“苍蝇馆子” was the name of the place, which translates into English to be “restaurant of flies”… not the most appetizing branding, so I don't blame them for having a completely unrelated English name “Chengdu Street Food.” Now, as a seasoned hoodlum of Dragon City, I’ve had my fair share of Chinese food, so I thought I knew what to expect. Spoiler: I was wrong—in the best way possible.
Cash is King in Chinatown
First off, this place only takes cash. There’s something charmingly old-school about a cash-only establishment in the middle of Toronto’s ever-modernizing Chinatown. It reminded me of the simpler days when business was done with a handshake and a handful of crinkled bills. 🧧✨
Spicy Food = A Reminder of Life
We ordered a couple of dishes from the picturesque menu full of vibrant paprika, politely asking the waitress to keep the spice on the light side. Her smile seemed innocent enough, but looking back, I think she was silently laughing at our amateur request.
The food arrived, and oh boy. The first bite? Delicious. The second? Fiery. By the third bite, I was reminded of my mortality. 🌶️🔥 My tongue felt like it was on fire, and yet, it was glorious. The spice heightened everything—the flavors, the experience, the moment. It made me realize that being alive isn’t just about breathing; it’s about feeling. And that intense, fiery heat was a feeling I won’t forget anytime soon.

Sharing the Music
Mid-dinner, inspired by the heat and the holiday atmosphere (they were playing Christmas tracks from the 1990s recorded by Taiwanese pop stars), I decided to share a bit of Marcel Du Chimp magic. I wrote down on a memo for the guy behind the counter:
Artificial Xmas by Marcel Du Chimp.
“Check it out,” I said, hoping he’d play it for the restaurant. But alas, later on, he came by and politely explained that he couldn’t find my music on the platform they use. 😔 Too bad—imagine the spicy food paired with my cheeky holiday tunes. It would’ve been a perfect combo!
Instead, the 1990s Christmas music continued, which, while nostalgic, didn’t quite have the monkey mischief I was hoping to bring to their evening.
Would I Go Back?
Absolutely. For the spice? Sure. For the vibe? Definitely. For the chance to get them to play my music next time? You better believe it!
So, my human-peoples, if you’re ever in Chinatown, let Dr. K guide you to this hidden gem. Bring cash, a steel tongue, and maybe a playlist of Artificial Xmas to liven things up. You won’t regret it—though your taste buds might need a little time to recover. 🍜🔥🎶
Yours in spice, soul, and silly attempts to share my tunes,
Marcel Du Chimp 🐒🎄🍌
